Welcome to the McKinley Middle Art Department!

HEY MUSTANG!

For those of you who are new, welcome to McKinley! I am Mrs. Colwell, one of three art teachers at our school.

I teach Introduction to Art, Drawing and Painting, and Animation. There is a course description available for each at the bottom of this page.

If you would like to know a little more about me I have created this nifty little slideshow. Click HERE to see it.

Course Descriptions

Drawing and Painting II

Drawing and Painting II is an 8th grade class for students who are more interested in traditional art materials. The first semester is drawing intensive, and then we move into painting in the second semester.

Animation

Animation is an 8th-grade class. It requires the student to be able to manage their time very well and the workload is large. First semester students are given a choice board and they must choose 6 projects to complete by the end of the semester. The second semester is spent on one project. Students must complete a 3 minute stop motion animation from beginning to end.

Intro to Art

Introduction to Art is a year-long introductory class for 6th graders. We dabble a little in everything in this class. The first semester is very drawing intensive, as it is intended to build a strong foundation in art so the student can to grow should they pursue art the following year. We learn a little art history and talk about some contemporary artists as well.

Art 7

Art 7 is the next class for those 7th graders who are returning having taken Intro the previous year. This class focuses on more non-traditional supplies such as Printmaking. All classes start with a drawing assessment and lesson plans are organized around the results of that assessment.

Drawing and Painting I

Drawing and Painting I is a 7th grade class for those who feel they are ready to tackle a little more advanced material. The first semester is drawing intensive, and then we move into painting in the second semester.

Art Club

In previous years I have been the sponsor for the Art Club. Unfortunatly we have not been able to have clubs since covid began. Keep checking with me, as soon as we can have clubs again we will have an art club.
